More About This Publication
During the Summer Enrichment Program at the Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center, students entering grades 2–7 took on two GIANT creative STEM challenges: Dream Up An Alien Character and Discover an Animal Hybrid. Together, they created 48 imaginative creatures, complete with original appearances, habitats, abilities, genetics, home planets, and survival skills.
In Dream Up An Alien Character, students traveled beyond Earth to imagine wonderfully strange extraterrestrial characters. They sketched their aliens, built 3D models of their aliens, described their home planets, and highlighted their unique appearances, personalities, and special powers.
In Discover an Animal Hybrid, students combined the features of different animals to invent entirely new species. They described, illustrated, built 3D models their hybrids, explored their genetics and habitats, and imagined the special traits and survival skills that would help them thrive.
The final publications celebrate all 48 student submissions through collectible cards featuring each participant’s original creation and its AI-generated avatar.
