Co-designed and co-written by kids, families and a multidisciplinary team of artists, educators, and writers at The GIANT Room, Laws of the Land at Babcock Library celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States by showcasing the laws and rules that kids want to see in their community.
Participating families responded to the civics creative mission, “What laws will YOU add to your community Code?”, by designing their own laws, stating who the law is for, and writing their law’s preamble and provisions:
Here, we have “remixed” their ideas into a one-of-a-kind game set inviting all kids (and adults) to collect the trading cards, reflect on the laws and rules in their community, and dive deep into civics thinking:
Featuring one deck of 31 trading cards, including 18 Laws of the Land Cards and 13 Identity Cards
Plus, one game book with 7 civics games, from slap games and storytelling prompts to group thought experiments and exercises – all designed with the goal to teach kids about civics in a fun, engaging way that uses their own ideas.
We are extremely honored to partner with Connecticut State Libraries and bring GIANT creative STEM experiences to the Connecticut community at the Babcock Library. We implemented a Remix Station with Babcock Library’s team, Ann Harper, Kaitlyn Moseley, Chonte' Fields, and Christopher Knorr.
