More About This Publication
Something oh, so wonderful is happening in this community photo album! Our self-portraits are getting mixed and remixed into a deck of collectible polaroid trading cards that we can use to celebrate, learn about, and connect with our community!
We’re deeply honored to partner with the Connecticut State Library and celebrate America 250 with the Connecticut community at the Gunn Memorial Public Library. We co-designed a Remix Station with children’s librarian, Ashley Doerwald, with the “Civics Mission: What Role Do You Play In Your Community?”.
More than 40 participants sketched, described, created, and shared. Here, we have “remixed” their self-portraits into a one-of-a-kind set, inviting all kids (and adults) to collect the polaroid trading cards of their fellow community members and flip through the photo album. You’ll go back in time to the colonial era, meet historical figures, and imagine the community as it was then. Next, jump ahead to the present day and learn how each community member contributes to the neighborhood, what values are important to them, and the badge of honor they wear proudly. Participants (past and present) are also encouraged to sign their autograph on their spread directly in this photo album.
