Co-designed and co-written by thirty (30) kids, their families, and a multidisciplinary team of artists, educators, and designers at The GIANT Room, YOU Built This City, A GIANT Lookbook showcases kids’ creative perspectives on engineering, city planning, and placemaking.
We are extremely honored to partner with the Museum of the City of New York and bring GIANT creative STEM experiences to the MCNY community. To highlight the opening of Joe Macken’s NYC model, we held three workshops where participants went on a tour of the museum, designed blueprints of a new addition to their city, and then engineered and built prototypes of these ideas with craft materials, recyclables, and DIY electronics. Participants were asked to name their city addition, decide the materials needed to build it, describe its special features, and choose what borough it would call home.
Participants joined, dreamed, engineered, and shared. Stefano created a new type of transportation powered by electricity that helps clean the environment. Max and Chloe explored sparkling, strong buildings and bridges made out of diamonds, while Eliana created the Bunnyrela Park Mobile, so that she can take her favorite outdoor spaces with her wherever she goes.
Here, we have “remixed” a selected number of creations designed and built at the workshops into a one-of-a-kind lookbook inviting all kids (and adults) to celebrate, reflect on, and learn from their creations: what kind of city do you want to build and live in and how will you do it?
