Professional Learning Workshop Series with The Joan Ganz Cooney Center from Sesame Workshop and The GIANT Room

You are invited to join a series of two professional learning workshops led by Joan Ganz Cooney Center from Sesame Workshop and The GIANT Room, focused on AI literacy in elementary schools. We will discuss a model that maps AI literacy to computational thinking standards and share strategies to integrate AI in science and literacy curriculum, providing opportunities for students to publish their own scientific learnings in books they can share with their family. All elementary teachers from District 24 in New York City are invited to join. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of how AI works and how to use AI tools with students in science and literacy curricula, and will have access to free turn-key lessons they can readily use in their classrooms. All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.

​Our distinguished panel: Michael Preston, Executive Director of the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop; Sehreen Noor Ali, former Strategic Communications Officer of the US Department of State Public Diplomacy and Co-Founder of Sleuth; Pinar Guvenc, Partner at SOUR, Board Member of Open Style Lab, and Faculty at Parsons School of Design and School of Visual Arts; and Jessica Millstone, Managing Director of Copper Wire Ventures, along with our moderator Dr. Azadeh Jamalian (Co-Founder of The GIANT Room and The GIANT Remix), will delve into the most effective ways to apply AI for social good.

​From instilling AI literacy in classrooms to scaling solutions for global impact, our focus is on empowering future generations to steer the direction and goals of this transformative technology.

​We will explore the latest AI innovations benefiting local communities and society at large. Our panelists, who are founders and community leaders driving social change, will share use cases and practical applications for AI that are shaping the future. They will highlight the challenges they are working to address, as well as the successes and obstacles they have encountered.

​After the panel discussion, audience members from NYC Tech Week will have the chance to ask questions and contribute their own ideas, sparking a dialogue on leveraging technology for the greater good.

Over the past month, GIANT families have transformed our blank gallery into an enchanted space showcasing their ideas of “Dream Land”. With fields of flowers, galaxies, clouds and shadows, and cozy tents and an 100% kid-friendly hospital, come see how our Dream Land has come together.

Selected artwork will be on live auction!

A Discussion With Ayah Bdeir: Intersection of Technology, Design, and Art for Children

Join us for a special event with Ayah Bdreir, an entrepreneur, inventor, and interactive artist. She is the founder and CEO of littleBits, an award-winning platform of easy-to-use electronic building blocks that is empowering kids everywhere to create inventions, large and small. Bdeir earned a Masters of Science degree from the MIT Media Lab and undergraduate degrees in Computer Engineering and Sociology from the American University of Beirut. She has received numerous awards including Eyebeam in New York, TED fellowship, Popular Mechanics' 25 Makers Who Are Reinventing the American Dream; and just recently was recognized at notable women in tech by Crain’s New York Business. We are honored to have her joining us to discuss the importance of integrating technology with art and design when introducing tech and coding to children.

Join us for a special event celebrating memorable storytelling for children with our exceptional guests Christopher Cerf and Mariana Prieto. Chris Cerf is a two time Grammy and three time Emmy Award winner, author, composer-lyricist, voice actor, puppeteer, and record and television producer. Called by Forbes, “The Cultural Icon Who Is Continuing Dr. Seuss's Legacy”, we are honored to have him join our panel to discuss his most recent children's book, A Skunk in My Bunk. Mariana Prieto is a former global fellow at IDEO and TED speaker focused on bringing the power of design thinking into wild-life conservation. We are honored to have her join our panel to discuss her recent book, The Rosette Graphic Novel. Through our interactive panel discussion, Chris and Mariana will collaborate with the audience to brainstorm ideas for our GIANT Wave Makers festival!
