Hour of Code for Parents

  • The GIANT Room 550 West 28th st New York, NY, 10001 (map)

For PARENTS who dare to code their ideas!

Parents are invited to join us on Dec 11th for a free coding workshop as part of the global Hour of Code initiative. The Hour of Code takes place every year during Computer Science Education Week, the first week in December with millions of participants joining each year!

Why for parents, and why you should join? As parents, our anxieties are contagious! Have you read about the research on math anxiety and how parents can transfer their fear of numbers to their children? The same argument goes with technology and coding! You should join the Hour of Code at The GIANT Room to find joy and gain confidence in coding - because it’s much better to have contagious smiles next time your child ask you about coding, than the discouraging “I’m not a coding person” reply!

What’s unique about Hour of Code at The GIANT Room? Our workshop will integrate both hardware and software to make the coding experience much more tangible and enjoyable. You will get into teams and code animation, games, or musical instrument with littleBits, code a new design and see it go live with embroidery machine, code a 2D of 3D model for the laser cutter, or design and code a new machine with Micro:bit!
