The GIANT Room Partners With Center for Public Research and Leadership at Columbia University For Innovative Initiative to Co-Design the Future of School

The GIANT Room seeks middle school students to share perspectives on future of schooling for a new initiative

The GIANT Room is seeking 11- to 14-year olds to participate in an innovative initiative to co-design the future of school. This project is being done in partnership with the Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) at Columbia University

Families are invited to apply to join the program, and will receive a $50 honorarium for their participation.

Participating students will join two free in-person workshops at Columbia University in Manhattan on Tuesday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 24, from 1 - 3 p.m. In collaboration with researchers and policymakers, students will prototype new models of education and explore how AI and other digital technology could be integrated into schools. This workshop will be facilitated by The GIANT Room and CPRL.

Learnings from this initiative will inform a report on student perspectives on AI and the future of schooling and recommendations on best practices for including youth as co-designers of school, district, and state policies. Central to both The GIANT Room and CPRL’s missions is the notion that all children should have access to and a voice in designing quality schooling that is engaging and effective and that prepares them for the future while placing their well-being and mental health at the core of their learning experience.

The workshop will be held on Columbia’s Morningside campus at 1125 Amsterdam Ave.
