The first youth-centered AI experience of its kind, Remix The Future By & For Youth is a FREE design, publication, and community-building program for public and school libraries serving youth ages 10-18.
The program launches by youth co-designing a creative community challenge they care about with The GIANT Room and library partners. Then, youth are called to action! They can respond to this challenge with their own ideas through a self-directed, easy-to-implement station set up at participating libraries.
The GIANT Room transforms youth ideas submitted at the station into published artifacts like trading cards, comic books, and posters. Libraries receive professionally-printed copies of these one-of-a-kind youth-centered publications to add to their collection.
Public and school libraries serving youth ages 10-18 are invited to apply to be a program site and bring creative challenges to youth in their community.
This program is brought to you by Connecticut State Library in partnership with The GIANT Room, funded by Young Futures.
How It Works
Your library will host a Remix Station (a self-directed activity table) for 3-4 weeks, collect submissions from youth in your community, see their ideas published, and receive professionally-printed copies of the final publication.
-
Submit the application form to apply to be a partner library. We will be selecting up to 50 libraries to participate, and you’ll be notified via email if you are selected. Participation is completely free for your library and your community.
The grant timeline is from August 2026 - March 2027. You decide when to schedule your Remix Station during that timeframe. Stations usually last 3-4 weeks.
-
Marketing: You’ll receive editable marketing materials, like social media posts, flyers, and email templates. You’ll even get marketing strategies about how to increase participation from the youth in your community.
Station Setup: You’ll be mailed station materials and setup instructions. Setup instructions also include resources to (1) train your staff how the station works and (2) talk about it with families and encourage them to participate.
-
You’ll host a Remix Station in your library for 3-4 weeks. Remix Stations are self-directed activities that live on a table in your library. The activity at the station will ask youth to respond to a creative challenge they care about and can be completed with a worksheet and writing/drawing tools.
In addition to an live online orientation that walks you and library staff through the process, you’ll have support from The GIANT Room team every step of the way.
-
Youth submit their ideas at the station in your library. They will complete a “Mission Sheet” (a worksheet) to respond to the creative challenge. Then, your library staff will take photos and upload the submissions to the GIANT Remix app.
-
In addition to a free, interactive digital publication, your library will receive professionally-printed copies of the community publications featuring youth’s ideas to add to your library’s circulation. They may be in the form of trading cards, game sets, comic books, posters, or something else!
