Creative STEM on WEDNESDAYS - Theme: DIY Electronics, Creative Tech, and Robotics

  • St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's 619 West 114th Street New York, NY, 10025 United States (map)

DESCRIPTION: For kids who dare to design and code their creative vision and immerse others in their imagination! Participants will explore a number of creative technologies such as Makey Makey, littleBits, MicroBit, and DIY sensors as well as coding platform such as p5.js and 3D CoSpaces and design immersive experiences for themselves and others to interact with. We’ll design and code for all of our senses - visual, touch, taste, smell, and body, interact, revise, and wow each other. Depending on each participant’s level of expertise and interests, they may choose to focus on a certain element of the immersive world - a participant may decide to focus on drawing and painting, another participant may decide to design sound tracks, code interactive elements in p5.js (an open-source JavaScript library for creative coding that allows you to use programming as an artistic medium), code interactive littleBits sensors using block based coding, build their own sensors, turn everything into a touchpad using Makey Makey, design and code their VR scenes and superimpose into the real world through AR, Participants learn fundamentals in interactive design, block-based and text-based coding, and create colorful, dynamic, and engaging visuals and sounds for design, architecture, fashion, gaming — anything they can imagine. This workshop series is a wonderful blend of coding, artistic vision, and presentation skills.
