Architecture in NYC Lookbook in Partnership with MCNY

Architecture In NYC Lookbook

The Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) partnered with The GIANT Room to offer three weeks of summer programs, inspired by their various exhibitions. This Lookbook showcases the creative journeys our campers went on during the Architecture Camp.

We have prepared this book as a resource for all families who are interested in experiencing our program but didn't have the chance to join us. This book also invites those who did join the program to continue with their journey, take their creations further, and keep on sharing with their community:

Part I: Dare to design the most unique brownstone on the block Inspired by the book "The Brownstone" written by Paula Scher and illustrated by Stan Mack. we invited our participants to design their own Brownstones and imagine life inside their buildings!

Part II: Dream of a more sustainable city
Inspired by Mary Mattingly’s “Biosphere” and Tom Fruin's "The Bombora House", we invited participants to design their own mini urban gardens and build furniture out of recycled materials

Part III: Dare to explore NYC neighborhoods and their rich cultures
Inspired by "This is New York" exhibition, we invited participants to design buildings, entertainment and shopping venues for the city.

Part IV: Dare to design tallest skyscrapers and longest bridges Inspired by "New York at its Core" collection, we invited participants to design tallest buildings, strongest and longest bridges for the largest metropolitan cities in the world

Part V: Dream of a more kid friendly NYC
Inspired by "Parks" and "Joy" sections of "This is New York" exhibition, we invited participants to design playgrounds and think of ways to make our city more kid friendly!

On the last day of the camp, we all gathered together, dreamed of our own version of New York City, build a a virtual model of it, and shared on big screens.

This lookbook invites families from all around the world to go on a similar creative journey, dream, experiment, and design a dream city that is sustainable, kid friendly, has spectacular architecture, and is full of life and joy!
