Building the City at the Museum of the City of New York - March 2026

The GIANT Room partnered with the Museum of the City of New York to bring a new series of creative STEM Workshops for Families!

The GIANT Room, an innovation hub for children and their families, brought a hands-on, creative STEM experience to museum visitors, inspired by the exhibition He Built This City: Joe Macken’s Model.

The program began with a guided gallery walk of the exhibition, led by museum staff. During the tour, families explored the tools and techniques that helped shape New York City, gaining insight into the creativity and engineering behind its development.

Afterward, participants were invited to imagine their own contributions to the city—whether a new building, public space, or mode of transportation. Using a variety of arts and crafts materials, families brought their ideas to life by creating their own prototypes.

These creations will be featured in a Lookbook by The GIANT Room, celebrating the imagination and innovation of participating families. You can explore some of the incredible buildings and transportation concepts created during our first workshop.
