GIANT Mentors Spotlight: Meet Claudette Stockwell!

Name: Claudette Stockwell

Library Name: Killingly Public Library

Title: Library Director

Tell us a bit about yourself… Hi! I’m Claudette - someone who finds joy in stories, ideas, and the kinds of conversations that make you see the world a little differently. I’ve spent the past 23 years working in the same library — first as a children’s librarian assistant and now as the library director — and it’s become a second home to me. I love to read, write, sing, and dive into deep, philosophical discussions. I’m married, a proud mom to a wonderful daughter, a lifelong cat person, and someone who loves deeply — people, ideas, and the small moments that make life feel meaningful.

My favorite Remix program with The GIANT Room has been... Our very first in-person family event.

My favorite moment from a GIANT Remix program was... The very next year when one of our patrons, a young boy, from the year before brought back his clay creation.

My favorite Mission Sheet submission from a GIANT Remix Remix program has been... Creating Would You Rather trading cards.

My most memorable moment at my library… When I first started working here and I was tasked with cutting out hundreds of felt stars for our annual holiday craft night and I thought “oh no, what have I gotten myself into?”

My favorite book is... A Time to Kill by John Grisham.

My favorite children’s book is.. Where’s My Teddy by Jez Alborough

My favorite thing to do in my town/city is… Seeing the lights from the Woodstock Fair.

Something I can spend hours doing and never get bored... Sleeping…what can I say? I love my jammies :)

Describe your commute this morning in 3 words… Fast‑Lane Karaoke.

If you could learn anything, what would it be? Psychology.

Something I’m looking forward to is… Starbucks on Saturday.

A fun fact about me is... I’m not much of a traveler, but I have a long love affair with New York City at night — once even convincing my husband to drive four hours just so we could see the lights and the Statue of Liberty before turning right back around. That’s why getting to work with the GIANT Room feels a little magical to me.
